Hi, I'm Shirley. I joined the Dallas and Pals team on a full-time basis in March 2019.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in early childhood education from the University of Washington where I made the Dean's list every quarter. I have been wrangling children of all ages since 2005 and switched from wrangling children to wrangling dogs in 2016 when I started working with Dallas and Pals on a fill-in basis. My schooling and experience working with children lends itself nicely to working with dogs, as both require teaching, patience, and the importance of safety.
In addition to dog walking, I also have pet sitting experience, and organized and managed breed specific meet-up groups. I've worked with animals much of my life and participated in obedience training with my dog Koda, a Newfoundland/Lab mix. As the mom of a giant breed, I am very aware of the special handling and needs of large dogs. As a volunteer Photographer's Assistant for holiday photo events at Grandview Off-Leash Dog Park, I handle all breeds, temperaments, and sizes of dogs getting them situated for their photos.
This fall I will be attending a one-year course at the University of Washington to earn a certificate in Animal Behavior.
I love working with dogs and I take great pride in treating each dog as though they were my own.
